Giving New Meaning to “Flying Fish”

Six years later, we transported Ralph and Norton, a pair of whale sharks, 8,000 miles from Taipei, Taiwan, to Atlanta. The only airline to ever fly whale sharks across the Pacific, UPS delivers whale sharks to the Georgia Aquarium.UPS reconfigured a B-747 freighter with advanced marine life support systems, custom tanks, and accommodations for the marine veterinarians on board to allow for the 54,000-pound load of whales and water.

Planning for Ralph and Norton’s trip took a year, but in 2006, UPS only needed six weeks to prepare for Alice and Trixie’s trip.  These female whale sharks flew the same route as Ralph and Norton, and now share a tank with them.

From the depths of the ocean to a bamboo forest, you never know where the next UPS Airlines shipment will come from.
