Think of UPS, and you probably think of Brown.

Brown Uniforms. Brown Trucks. “What can Brown do for you?”

But it hasn’t always been this way....

One hundred years ago, when UPS first started as the American Messenger Company, there was no Brown. No trucks. There were just two young men, Seattle Fleet, 1922running a very small business out of a basement office in downtown Seattle.

And a few years later, when they finally did buy some trucks, they painted each one a different color. Why? They wanted everyone to know that there was more than one.

So, how in the 100 years since then and now, did UPS transform itself from a single-city bicycle messenger company into one of the world’s largest transportation and logistics companies, with more than 400,000 employees?

Brown and You
Share your thoughts, photos, and stories at our community gallery. We're looking for photos of UPS history, stories from current employees, retirees, and customers. Visit the community Gallery. And, tell us why your driver rocks.

And change the way much of the world sees a certain color in the process?

That’s what this site is about. We’re going to draw back the curtain a little bit. Surprise you with stories of special deliveries, like what we did with those whales. Show you a whole gallery of interesting UPS stuff, past, present, and future. 100 years is a long time and there’s a lot to be proud of.

But it’s not all tooting our own horn (though there is some of that). It’s about you, too – your experiences with UPS, your thoughts, photos, and reflections. We’re capturing them all, here.
