Boxes, Bytes, and BarcodesAll Featured Stories 1 | 2 | 3 | 4The customer is always hungry Since the 1980s, UPS has invested billions of dollars in technology development and infrastructure. When we recognized that the once distinct flows of goods, information and funds were converging, we transformed our portfolio of services. And behind almost every service is technology. Our customers are hungry for information. They recognize information is the key to better managing their supply chains. Our technology takes the guesswork out of managing a supply chain, whether it’s as simple as someone shipping a birthday present to his sister, or as complex as someone managing inventory in a warehouse. UPS has created shipping systems to enable customers to easily process small package and freight shipments. We have developed visibility solutions to help customers monitor their shipments, allowing them to provide better service and manage their supply chains more efficiently. Alliances with world-class companies such as Yahoo!, eBay, and Sage Software have led to the integration of UPS technology to facilitate our shipping services, allowing for a seamless customer experience. What’s next? Technology certainly helps UPS operate more efficiently, but technology also enables us to offer new services to customers, generating new revenue streams for our business. For example, UPS recently introduced Delivery Intercept service, which will enable shippers to intercept and redirect a package to a different address than originally requested. The manual method used previously to provide this type of service was costly and, thus, rarely promoted. Now, thanks to package flow technology, we can provide this service more easily and much more cost effectively. Customers can initiate the service by phone or at UPS.com. Looking forward, UPS will continue to paint towns Brown as we expand around the world. On-call pickups in places across Europe and Asia, where UPS is less familiar, will continue to increase. Developments with technology like GPS will help us to continue providing the excellent and reliable service our customers expect. UPS is a long way from the small company of young men delivering messages on foot. Today, we’re shrinking the world and expediting commerce. We create technology that transforms the world of transportation, even if it sometimes just looks like a simple shipping label.
